More Original Cast Confirmed For Sequel to The Mummy

According to Deadline, Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O’Connor will reprise their roles from the original 1999 film The Mummy for the next film in the franchise.

Both actors were first introduced in 1999’s The Mummy, with Fehr going on to reprise his role in 2001’s The Mummy Returns. For those who don’t know, O’Connor played Beni Gabor, a comrade of Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) and servant of the resurrected Egyptian high priest Imhotep. Whereas Fehr played Ardeth Bay, the leader of the secret society of elite warriors who are sworn to protect Egypt from the franchise’s antagonist. Also joining the cast is Numan Acar, known for his role in Young Sherlock, although it is unclear at this stage who Acar will play in the movie.

The films were hugely popular in the early 2000’s and are widely credited with putting Fraser into the eyes of the mainstream. Although this writer credits that to Looney Tunes: Back In Action instead. They followed the overseas adventures of Rick O’Connell as he battles evil curses from the likes of Imhotep, one of the studio’s original movie monsters of the early 20th century. The plot for the latest in the franchise, the first since 2008’s incredibly disappointing Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, is currently being kept under wraps. Fraser returns for the new film, alongside Rachel Weisz and John Hannah. Obsession’s Michael Johnston has already been announced as joining the cast.

Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing from a script written by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill). Sean Daniel, who has been regularly involved in the whole franchise, is producing alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, as well as Clayton Townsend, with Fraser and Hivemind’s Jason F. Brown also exec producing. Executive Vice President of Production Development Jay Polidoro and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the production for Universal.

The unnamed sequel will release on October 15th 2027.
