West Indies and Pakistan are set to meet in the second and final Test of the series at the iconic Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, beginning on August 2. The hosts head into the contest brimming with confidence after registering a comprehensive 90-run victory in the series opener at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy to take an unassailable 1-0 lead.

Jayden Seales starred with a magnificent five-wicket haul in the fourth innings, while Justin Greaves and the rest of the pace attack consistently troubled Pakistan’s batting lineup throughout the Test. Despite fighting knocks from Shan Masood and Babar Azam across the two innings, Pakistan slumped to their eighth consecutive away Test defeat and will now aim to salvage a draw in the series finale.

Port of Spain Weather Forecast for the 2nd Test

The five-day weather forecast suggests humid tropical conditions, with rain and thunderstorms likely to interrupt play on multiple days, particularly at the beginning and end of the Test.

    • Day 1 (Sunday): Morning showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to delay the start of play. Temperatures will reach around 29°C, with nearly a 65% chance of rain, although conditions are likely to improve later in the afternoon.
    • Day 2 (Monday): Mostly cloudy skies with occasional sunny spells are forecast. Brief afternoon showers may interrupt play, but extended stoppages are unlikely. Temperatures will range between 24°C and 28°C.
    • Day 3 (Tuesday): The morning session is expected to provide the best batting conditions of the match before heavy localized showers and thunderstorms develop later in the day. Rain probability could increase to around 70%.
    • Day 4 (Wednesday): Long sunny intervals are expected despite variable cloud cover. A few isolated showers may briefly halt play, but most of the day should remain suitable for cricket, with temperatures hovering around 29°C.
    • Day 5 (Thursday): Overcast skies and widespread tropical thunderstorms are forecast throughout the day. Persistent rain could heavily affect the final day’s play if the match remains alive.

    Queen’s Park Oval Pitch Report

Unlike the pace-friendly green surface used for the opening Test, the Queen’s Park Oval is expected to present a much more traditional subcontinental-style challenge. Curators have prepared a dry, low-grass brown wicket that should remain relatively slow and batting-friendly during the opening two days.

Top-order batters are expected to enjoy the best of the conditions early in the Test, provided they negotiate the humid weather. Fast bowlers are unlikely to receive significant seam or swing off the surface and will instead have to rely on disciplined lines, changes of pace and reverse swing as the ball gets older.

As the match progresses, the dry surface is expected to deteriorate steadily. By the third day, cracks and rough patches should begin to appear, allowing spinners to extract increasing turn, uneven bounce and occasional dust from the wicket. Batting in the fourth innings could become considerably more challenging, making spin a decisive factor in the outcome of the match.

Winning the toss could prove crucial, with the captain expected to bat first and make full use of the flatter conditions before the pitch begins to assist the spinners later in the contest. Overall, the surface promises a balanced Test that should gradually shift in favour of the bowlers as the game progresses.
