Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden says he is ready to step up and be a leader at the club as they begin life after Pep Guardiola.

The legendary City boss left the club at the end of the season after a decade in charge which saw them win 20 trophies.

Foden, 26, has played all of his club football under the Spaniard until now.

And, with Enzo Maresca now in charge, the six-time Premier League winner says he is ready to be a focal point after missing out on the World Cup.

He said: “I’ve been at the club for so long, I’m one of the longest serving here so this season I have to be one of the leaders, one of the captains.

“I’m looking forward to that new responsibility and trying to take leadership.”

City have seen John Stones, Bernardo Silva and Nathan Ake all leave this summer while Rodri is linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Foden could find himself as the most experienced player come the start of the Premier League season and he is relishing playing under a new manager.

“I’ve found it good. All I’ve known is Pep Guardiola so to go to a new manager is just a fresh start,” he said.

“I’m enjoying it. I’m enjoying the coaching staff and the way we’re playing and the things we’re doing in training. I’m excited for the season and hopefully we’re going to have a really good year.

Foden 💬 (On Elliot Anderson) I am really excited to have him at the club – whenever I have watched him or played with him, he’s a player that likes to find the No.10 and wrap balls through the lines.

“It’s very similar to how we played under Pep but there’s obviously still things that are a little bit different.

“I don’t want to give too much away but the defending is a little bit different, how we set up. We have different ideas of playing out from the back, a variety of things on the ball.

“There are different things but the lads are very comfortable because we want to build from the back and try and create.”

City face the K-League All-Stars in Seoul on Wednesday as part of their pre-season tour of Asia.
