Rosie O’Donnell co-hosted The View in two short-lived tenures. Her time on the show is mostly remembered for her blowup argument with Elisabeth Hasselbeck. However, there was another feud brewing. The comedian broke her silence and opened up about what caused her feud with Whoopi Goldberg and where they stand now. Keep reading for all the details.
Rosie O’Donnell Invites Herself Back To The View
Rosie O’Donnell left The View for the second time in 2015 after just one year. She left the United States completely in 2025 amid an ongoing feud with President Trump. However, the actress returned for the summer to perform her one-woman show, Common Knowledge, in New York City.
Additionally, she temporarily takes over for Jimmy Kimmel later this month while he’s on vacation from his late-night talk show. The move sparked speculation that she’s looking to take over for him permanently. However, she said that she would love to return to daytime television, either on The View or reviving her daytime talk show.
The ABC talk show kicks off its milestone Season 30 this fall. Rosie O’Donnell said on The Tangle with Kyle Ridley podcast that she’s returning to The View to help the show celebrate the milestone.
“I will go on the 30th anniversary next [season], and be on in whatever way they want me. They’re bringing back all the hosts, I think, for the 30th season,” she said.
But not so fast. Entertainment Weekly reached out to Rosie O’Donnell’s representative and received this response: “There was a mention of inviting some of the hosts back to The View as a guest during season 30, [but] there has not been a formal ask from the show at this time.”

The rep added that Ana Navarro first floated the idea of Rosie O’Donnell returning. However, “nothing has been formalized.” A feud between Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg might be standing in the way of her return.
She Addresses Whoopi Goldberg Feud, Reveals What Started It
Whoopi Goldberg joined The View in 2007 to replace Rosie O’Donnell as the show’s moderator. She was still in the position when Rosie returned in 2014. Viewers could sense the tension between the two.
“I had a sort of tense time with Whoopi,” Rosie O’Donnell admitted on The Tangle podcast. “I wanted to be on her team. I admire her EGOT status. I have respect for her. And I thought we’d be like Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan, passing the ball back and forth, and shooting, and leading the team to victory. But that’s not exactly what happened.”
Instead, Rosie O’Donnell believes that Whoopi Goldberg felt “encroached” on. “I think maybe she felt encroached upon in some way, and I was never trying to encroach. I was just doing it the way that I knew how to do it. And it didn’t go so well, you know,” Rosie said.
It’s been nearly twelve years since she left The View for the second time. Time really does heal all wounds. Rosie O’Donnell revealed that she’s in a good place with Whoopi Goldberg now. The two had an unexpected reunion in June when they both attended the same Broadway show.
For now, Rosie O’Donnell’s return to The View for Season 30 isn’t a sure thing. Let us know in the comments if you want to see her back on the talk show. Stay tuned for updates.
