LIV Golf chief executive Scott O’Neil says the breakaway circuit has secured new investment that will keep the tour running beyond the end of the 2026 season.
Speaking ahead of this week’s event at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, O’Neil confirmed an agreement has been reached with a lead investor, although he did not reveal the investor’s identity or the size of the funding package.
“LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the league’s next era, driven by and for the players,” O’Neil said.
“We’re also seeing strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth.”
The league hopes to finalise the deal in the coming weeks before completing the transaction in September.
O’Neil has been seeking between $250 million and $300 million in investment after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced in April that it would no longer bankroll LIV Golf.
The PIF is reported to have invested more than $5 billion into the league over its first five seasons.
New structure gives power to players
Under the proposed structure, LIV Golf players will become the majority equity holders in the competition.
“It gives the League the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide,” O’Neil added.
“In the meantime, our focus is on delivering a great week for fans and players at Bedminster and finishing the 2026 season strong.”
LIV also outlined plans for a revamped 2027 schedule, featuring 10 tournaments.
The calendar is expected to include five international team majors in Australia, South Africa, England, Hong Kong and Mexico, alongside five team signature events in the United States.
The league also said its players will be free to compete on other global tours while regaining control of their name, image and likeness rights, allowing them greater freedom over commercial partnerships.
A players-only meeting, led by two-time US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, was held at Trump National Golf Club on Tuesday ahead of the latest event.
