    Two Canadian judokas won gold for Canada at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on Friday. The Canadian gold medalists were Evelyn Beaton of Lethbridge, Alberta (women’s 52 kilograms) and Julien Frascadore of Quebec City, Quebec (men’s 66 kilograms).

    Beaton defeated Sofia Avesta of Cyprus 1-0 in the gold medal match. Tatum Keen of England and Marie-Celine Baba Matia of Cameroon won the bronze medals. Beaton also defeated Lola Hodson of Wales in the quarterfinals and defending Commonwealth Games champion Tinka Easton of Australia in the semifinals.

    Frascadore defeated Georgios Balarjishvili of Cyprus by a yoko in the golden score period portion of the gold medal match. Michael Fryer of England and Petros Christodoulidis of Cyprus won the bronze medals. Frescadore beat Mederic Lawson of Togo in the round of 16, Aiden Moffat of Scotland in the quarterfinals and Michael Agbo of Nigeria in the semifinals.

    Canada won six more medals on Friday (two silver medals and four bronze medals). The silver medalists were Damian Warner of London, Ontario (men’s decathlon), and Heidi Quach of Montreal, Quebec (women’s 48 kilogram judo). The bronze medalists were Joshua Ofori of Edmonton, Alberta (men’s 80 kilogram boxing), Amber-Jane Wall of Fort McMurray, Alberta (women’s 51 kilogram boxing), Evan Dunfee of Richmond, British Columbia (men’s 10000 metre walk), and Savannah Sutherland of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (women’s 400 metre hurdles).

    In boxing on Saturday, two Canadians are fighting for gold. They are Scarlett Delgado of Brampton, Ontario (women’s 54 kilograms) and Marie Al-Ahmadieh of Montreal (women’s 57 kilograms). Al-Ahmadieh defeated Fatima Zahra of Pakistan in the semifinals on Friday as the referee stopped the decision. She will fight Priya Ghanghas of India in the gold medal bout. Meanwhile, Delgado defeated Lauren Mackie of England 4-1 in the semifinals on Friday in a split decision and will next face Preeti Pawar of India in the gold medal bout.

    In lawn bowling, John Bezear of Kitchener, Ontario and Ryan Bester of Hanover, Ontario remained undefeated in the men’s pairs event. They improved to 4-0 after a two sets to one upset and comeback win over Scotland.

    Canada is in third place in the overall medal standings with 53 medals (17 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 21 bronze medals). Australia leads with 123 medals and England is second with 80 medals.
