Hires
Aledade, a national network of independent primary care practices, named Daren Thayne as its chief technology officer and Josh Mandel as its chief scientist. Thayne joins the organization from business intelligence software company Domo, where he served as chief technology officer and executive vice president of product. Mandel comes to Aledade from Microsoft Research, where he served as chief architect for health.
Dartmouth Health announced that it will welcome Jonathan Welch as its new COO later this summer. He is currently serving as Geisinger’s chief population health officer and chief innovation officer.
Evergreen Healthcare Partners appointed Saad Chaudhry as its new CEO. He joins the consulting firm from SSM Health, where he worked as chief digital and information officer.
Northwell Health welcomed Brian Kim as its first chief biotechnology officer. He comes to Northwell from Mount Sinai, where he most recently served as a physician-scientist and vice chair of research.
Documentation AI startup Nabla hired Brian Manning as its new CEO. His most recent role was at Bamboo Health, where he worked as president.
Terri LeFort became the new CEO of Pivot Point Consulting. In the past she has served as president of Nordic International and Healthtech Consultants.
Providence named Amanda Chawla as its new chief supply chain officer and Brad Myers as its new chief pharmacy officer. In the past, Chawla worked as chief supply chain and post acute care officer at Stanford Health Care. Myers joins Providence as chief administrative officer at OU Health.
Rad AI, which sells AI-powered radiology workflow tools, hired Leonard Law as its chief product officer. In the past, he held product leadership roles at Primer.ai, Coinbase and Google Cloud.
Vanderbilt Health appointed David Miller as its next CEO, effective January 1. Miller currently serves as the CEO of Michigan Medicine, where he has worked for nearly three decades.
Wearables company Whoop welcomed Ami Bhatt as its chief medical officer. Prior to Whoop, she held leadership roles at the FDA and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Exits
Epic President Sumit Rana stepped down from his role after nearly 30 years with the EHR giant — a move that shakes up succession plans for its 82-year-old CEO Judy Faulkner. Rana’s exit is part of a broader shake-up — with AI leader Seth Hain, R&D senior vice president Dave Fuhrmann and 20-year technical services veteran Mark Morris also departing.
Risant Health CEO Jaewon Ryu is stepping down from his position to focus on his family. Dale Maxwell, CEO of Presbyterian Healthcare Services, has been named interim CEO.
Layoffs
Adventist Health laid off 132 employees across its California operations in early July as it centralized quality, risk management, infection prevention and accreditation functions that were previously handled at the hospital level. The health system, which operates more than 440 care sites and employs over 38,000 people, said 109 of the affected workers had already been offered other roles within the organization.
Amgen let go of about 40 employees, roughly 0.1% of its global workforce. The biotech didn’t disclose which teams or locations were affected, and the cuts come as the company faces mounting regulatory scrutiny over its rare disease drug Tavneos.
Cape Fear Valley Health is eliminating about 200 positions, including 138 currently filled roles, citing declining federal reimbursements and rising costs of delivering care. The North Carolina-based health system employs more than 9,000 people across nine hospitals and clinics.
San Francisco-based Dignity Health, part of CommonSpirit Health, laid off 139 employees across two Southern California hospitals — 57 at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and 82 at California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles. The health system said the cuts are part of an effort to boost efficiencies amid the financial pressures affecting providers nationwide.
Novartis is cutting 322 jobs at its Headquarters in East Hanover, New Jersey — its fourth round of layoffs there in five months. The layoffs, effective by October 2, bring the Swiss pharma company’s 2026 U.S. job losses to nearly 800.
Wellstar Health System is laying off 761 employees, about 2% of its 35,000-person workforce. The cuts hit corporate, shared-services and some administrative roles within Wellstar Medical Group, while the health system said frontline doctors, nurses and clinical staff are not affected.
